Mei sets off on her own, and Satsuki and Nanny look for her.

Seita realizes that his father is almost certainly dead.

Seita withdraws his savings and hears some bad news.

Seita feeds Setsuko some of the ice shavings that have spilled from the ice-vendors cart.

The doctor gives Seita his diagnosis. Afterwards, the siblings spot an ice cart.

Seita discovers Setsuko lying on the ground unconscious and takes her to a doctor.

Satsuki breaks down when she and Nanny are at the well preparing rice.

The sisters quarrel and return home.

Mei faces off with a goat, then finds Satsuki who gives her bad news.
